Every fantasy football owner is always looking for the next move to propel his team to championship status. I will highlight one player from each major position that had a fantasy football break out game in week 10 and share with you my sleeper’s for week 11.

Fantasy Football Week 10 Breakout Players:

Matt Ryan
Matt Ryan eludes the rush and throws a pass.

QB= The Ninja’s breakout QB in Week 10 is 5th year man out of Boston College and is as cool as the other side of the pillow, Matt “Matty Ice” Ryan. Ryan threw for a career high 411 yards this Sunday vs. the New Orleans Saints and added three touchdowns in a losing effort. The knock on Ryan and the rest of the Atlanta Falcons is that regular season success has not transformed into post season success in of each the 5 seasons that Ryan has lead the team. The good news for fantasy owners is that fantasy playoffs are in weeks (14, 15, and 16) so Ryan and the Falcons offense should still be clicking on all cylinders so no need to panic. Ryan has pulled into a tie with Tom Brady as the 4th best QB in the league in terms of fantasy points (268) and is showing no signs of slowing down. Ryan’s next three games are against the Cardinals, Bucs, and Saints.  Bucs pass defense ranked 32; Saints pass defense ranked 31.

adrian peterson
Adrian Peterson strolls into the endzone

RB= The Ninja’s breakout RB in Week 10 is “The Beast” Adrian Peterson. Peterson ran for 171 yards and a touchdown Sunday vs. the Detroit Lions as this has become the norm for AP this season. Peterson has rushed for over 120 yards in four consecutive weeks and his 1,128 rushing yards tops the NFL. Peterson also broke team records for 1,000 yard rushing seasons (5) and most rushing yards through ten games with his 1,128 yards. Peterson is finding the end zone quite frequently this year as he has 7 rushing TDs on the year and 5 over his past four games. Peterson is showing no signs of the torn ACL that he suffered last year as he is on pace for his best career rushing numbers ever. Peterson would be a lock any other year for the Comeback Player of the Year award but edging out Peyton Manning this year will be tough.

calvin johnson
Calvin Johnson makes a move against the Vikings defense.

WR= The Ninja’s breakout WR in Week 10 is “The Megatron” Calvin Johnson. Johnson has showed up for fantasy owners in the past two weeks and this Sunday’s game was by far his best fantasy output of the year.  Johnson scored 38 points this week according to Yahoo’s default scoring settings and went well into the 40s in leagues that use accelerators. Johnson ended his monstrous day vs. the Vikings with 12 receptions for 207 yards and a TD. It looks like Johnson and Stafford have found their magical 2011 bond again as Johnson has more receiving yards in the last two weeks than he had in the previous 3 weeks combined. Look for Johnson to continue this recent success Sunday as he goes against the Green Bay Packers who are currently ranked 20th in the league at stopping the pass. The Packers also lost their best defensive player linebacker Clay Mathews to a hamstring injury and this should give Stafford more time in the pocket to find receivers down field, especially Johnson.

Fantasy Football Week 11 Sleepers:

cam newton
Cam Newton escapes the pocket against the Redskins.

QB= The Ninja’s Week 11 sleeper is Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton. Newton is coming off an ok game where he threw for 241 yards, 2 TDs, and 2 INTs. In most fantasy leagues INTs are negative two so Cam lost your 4 points this week but his 241 pass yards and 2 TDs were still good enough for a 19 point performance. Although Cam has struggled this year in NFL football he is still having a decent year for fantasy owners. Cam has scored 19, 23, 23, and 19 points in his last four games and is still a solid start for most teams. This week Cam gets the worst pass defense in the NFL when facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who have given up a dreadful 321 passing yards a game this season.  Cam finally found his security blanket last week as he hooked up with pro bowl tight end Greg Olsen 9 times, for 102 yards, and two touchdowns. Look for Cam to find a lot of receivers, tight ends, and backs running free in the Buc’s secondary this week.

RB= The Ninja’s Week 11 sleeper is Miami Dolphins RB Reggie Bush. Bush is coming off a horrible game where he only rushed for 21 yards and only managed 1 catch for 8 yards. The main factor for his lack of fantasy output came at the hands of head coach Joe Philbin as he benched Bush for the entire 1st half after fumbling on the Dolphins first drive. Fumbles are part of the game and putting your best offensive weapon on the bench for an entire half is just crazy no matter which way you look at it. Players have publically announced their displeasures with Coach Philbin and after last Sunday fans are starting to see why. Backup running back Daniel Thomas only saw 5 carries on the game which is still a good sign that Bush will be receiving most of the team’s carries, if he is in the game. Bush will get to run against the league’s worst defense at stopping the run Sunday as the Buffalo Bills are giving up 164 yards a game on the ground.

Darrius Heyward-Bey
Darrius Heyward-Bey tries to outrun the defense.

WR= The Ninja’s Week 11 sleeper is Oakland Raiders WR Darrius Heyward-Bey. Heyward-Bay has been ailing to annoying injuries all season long and is just now getting back to 100%. The play of Denarius Moore has really opened up the field for Heyward-Bey as he has averaged 10 fantasy points over his last four games and is receiving a lot more one on one coverage this year. Due to one on one coverage Heyward-Bey has had the opportunity to take the top off the defense a lot more this year and did it again last Sunday when he got behind the Ravens secondary for a 55 yard touchdown catch at the end of the first half. Heyward-Bey is going up against the New Orleans Saints secondary this week who are currently ranked 31st in the league at stopping the pass so look for Heyward-Bey to get plenty of opportunities to impact the game.
