Every fantasy football owner is always looking for the next move to propel his team to championship status. I will highlight one player from each major position that had a fantasy football break out game in week 11 and share with you my sleeper’s for week 12.
Fantasy Football Week 11 Breakout Players:
QB= The Ninja’s Breakout QB in Week 11 is Houston Texan Matt Schaub. Schaub threw for a career high 527 yards and tossed 5 TDs in Sundays win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. This was a huge bounce back game for Schaub as he only threw for 95 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INTs in Week 10 vs. the Chicago Bears. Schaub will face a top ten defense in his Thanksgiving Day matchup vs. the Detroit Lions who have only allowed 216 pass yards a game through the first 11 weeks of the season. The Lions are a historically tough team to play on Thanksgiving, so look for this to be a low scoring game as it will feature two of the league’s top defenses. The Texans great run game was slowed down Sunday vs. the Jags; look for the Lions to copycat some of the same run blitzes the Jags used Sunday. If the Lions can slow down the Texans run game, Schaub will be forced into throwing the ball over 50 times like he did last Sunday, which should set him up to have a decent fantasy day against a great defense (20-25 points).
RB=The Ninja’s Breakout RB in Week 11 is Arizona Cardinal LaRod Stephens-Howling. Stephens-Howling has come out of his season long fantasy draught as he has rushed for over 50 yards and has scored a TD in consecutive weeks. Stephens-Howling rushed for 137 yards, 1 TD, and added 2 receptions in Week 11 which graded out to a 21 point fantasy day according to Yahoo Sports default scoring settings. The bad news for Stephens-Howling is starting running back Beanie Wells has been cleared off the Injured Reserved list (IR) and is expected to start in Week 12 against the St. Louis Rams. Stephens-Howling has done everything in his power to earn carries after his perfromcaes in the past two weeks, but look for his touches and fantasy output to dramatically drop off with Wells back in the lineup. The Rams are currently giving up 115 yards a game on the ground so Stephens-Howling may still find some success in a limited role as the Rams are susceptible to the big run.
WR=The Ninja’s Breakout WR in Week 11 is Jacksonville Jaguar Justin Blackmon. Blackmon finally broke out of his season long fantasy coma and looked like the player the Jacksonville Jaguars thought he would be when they selected him with the 5th overall pick in this year’s NFL draft. Blackmon exploded for 236 receiving yards on 7 catches and found the end zone on an 81 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter in Week 11’s game vs. the Houston Texans. Blackmon’s 36 point game was his highest mark of the season by far as his highest scoring fantasy day prior to Week 11 was in Week 9 when he scored 15 points vs. the Detroit Lions. Blackmon found quite a groove Sunday with backup Quarterback Chad Heene, who looked like anything like a backup in Week 11 and has already been named the starter for the Jaguars Week 12 matchup against the Tennessee Titans. Blackmon is available in 73% of fantasy leagues according to Yahoo Sports, and may prove to be a valuable flex for your team heading down the playoff stretch. Worth noting: Blackmon had a total of 250 receiving yards on the year before adding 236 in Week 11.
Fantasy Football Week 12 Sleepers:
QB= The Ninja’s Week 12 Sleeper QB is New York Jet Mark Sanchez. Sanchez is coming off another typical Mark Sanchez day as he threw for 178 yards and a TD against the St Louis Rams in Week 11. Sanchez rarely lights it up in the yards category but if you are looking for a solid 15-18 point performance out of your quarterback position Sanchez can be your guy, as he is currently available in 89% of fantasy leagues according to Yahoo Sports. Sanchez looked very sharp last Week against the St. Louis Rams as he connected on 15 of 20 passes and zero interceptions. Sanchez faces the New England Patriots this week who are currently ranked 30th at stopping the pass as they give up 290 yards a game through the air, and are coming off a game where they surrendered 334 yards and 2 passing TDs to rookie quarterback Andrew Luck. The Jets should throw the ball quite often on Thanksgiving Day as their run game has not showed any signs of getting of the ground as of late and have not had a 100 yard rush performance in the past 4 weeks.
RB= The Ninja’s Week 12 Sleeper RB is Indianapolis Colt Vick Ballard. Ballard ran for 72 yards and added one catch for seven yards in Week 11 vs. the New England Patriots. Ballard was supposed to share the load with running back Donald Brown but received 12 more carries than Brown this past Sunday, which leads fantasy owners and coaches around the league to believe that Ballard is the Colts first option. Ballard has averaged 10 points a game over the past five weeks and has solidified himself as a useful piece in a Colts offense that is averaging 21 points per game. Ballard will be running against the Buffalo Bills defense in Week 12 who is currently ranked 31st in the league at stopping the run, as they give up 153 yards a game on the ground. Ballard has seen more than 15 carries in his past 5 games, and if this trend continues Sunday, look for Ballard to do damage with his touches as the Bills have not been able to stop anyone all year. Ballard is available in 65% of fantasy leagues according to Yahoo Sports.
WR= The Ninja’s Week 12 Sleeper WR is San Francisco 49er Mario Manningham. Manningham has been the forgotten man in the 49er receiving core, but has been showing more production as of late. The 49ers offense looked unstoppable on Monday Night Football as they picked apart the Chicago Bears defense that is currently ranked in the top 5. Colin Kaepernick found every open receiver, checked into every right play at the line, and made the right decisions all night to spark the 49er offense to a 32 point performance. Manningham only caught 2 balls for 45 yards, but was targeted over 5 times in the Monday night game and is the 49ers most consistent deep threat as he leads the team in catches over 20 yards on the season. Manningham will be facing a New Orleans Saints secondary that has been struggling all year at stopping the pass. They give up over 300 yards a game through the air and are currently ranked 31st in the league. Manningham is available in 79% of fantasy leagues according to Yahoo Sports.
