Fantasy Football Breakouts and Sleepers: Week 14

Week 13 Breakouts and Week 14 Fantasy Football Sleepers

The Ninja’s Week 13 Sleeper Stats: (PPR Scoring)

QB= Ryan Tannehill- 186 pass yards, 19 rush yards, 1 rush TD. (14 points)

RB= Jacquizz Rodgers- 43 rush yards, 2 rec. (6 points)

WR= Brandon Stokley- (Game time scratch; did not play)

Every fantasy football owner is always looking for the next move to propel his team to championship status. I will highlight one player from each major position that had a break out game in week 13 and share with you my sleeper’s for week 14.  Here is the Ninja’s breakout players for week 13, and sleepers for week 14.

Fantasy Football Week 13 Breakout Players:

Luck’s eyes are always down field.

QB= The Ninja’s Breakout QB in Week 13 is Indianapolis Colt Andrew Luck. Luck put up another 300 yard passing performance last Sunday vs. the Detroit Lions as he led his Colts to their 8th victory on the year. Luck has thrown for 3,596 yards this season and is on pace to eclipse the 4,500 yard mark by the end of the season (4,700). If Luck throws for more than 4,500 yards, 20 TDs, and leads a two win franchise a year ago to the playoffs (on pace)  is he the best rookie the NFL has ever seen? Luck is putting up a rookie campaign for the ages but due to the brilliance of Robert Griffin III (RG3) Luck is anything but a lock to walk away with the Rookie of the Year award at the end of the year. In the fantasy world (only world that matters to us) RG3 is having the better year as he has racked up 298 fantasy points compared to Luck’s 265 points. Luck currently sits 4th among all QBs in passing yards this year as his 3,596 is better than QBs Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady; Brees, Manning, and Stafford are the three ahead of Luck, not bad company.

AP running through wimpy tacklers.

RB= The Ninja’s Breakout RB in Week 13 is Minnesota Viking Adrian Peterson. Peterson ran for a whopping 210 yards and a TD last week but still saw his Vikings fall short to the division rival Green Bay Packers. This marked the 6th consecutive game that Peterson has rushed for more than 100 yards and is showing no signs of slowing down as he leads the NFL in rushing with 1,446 yards. Peterson has the Ninja’s vote for the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award but many experts will argue the fact that Peyton Manning is more deserving. Peterson came off a torn ACL which is hands down the worst possible injury for a player; especially a running back that is responsible for 60% of the offensive plays ran for their team. Peterson has also had no problem finding the end zone during his 6 game tear as he has 6 TDs over this span and has added 16 receptions for 66 yards just for good measure.

Megatron Transforming.

WR= The Ninja’s Breakout WR in Week 13 is Detroit Lion Calvin Johnson (Megatron).  Johnson’s 171 receiving yards last week against the Indianapolis Colts marked the 8th time this year he has surpassed 100 receiving yards in a game and the 5th consecutive week he has reached this milestone. Johnson leads all receivers in yards (1,428) this year and needs 420 yards over his final 4 games to break the all-time receiving yards in a season record (1,848) that was set by HOF Jerry Rice in 1995. Johnson is currently the second best receiver in terms of fantasy points this year behind only Brandon Marshall who leads Johnson by 6 points; third place receiver AJ Green is 10 points behind Johnson. Johnson has the Green Bay Packers in Week 14 who give up 349 yards a game through the air so look for Johnson to stay on his current streak of 100 yard receiving games.

Fantasy Football Week 14 Sleepers:

nick foles
Nick Foles prepares to throw

QB= The Ninja’s Sleeper QB in Week 14 is Philadelphia Eagle Nick Foles. If you are playing this week you made your fantasy playoffs congratulations. This means you probably do not have any issues at the all-important QB position but if you do Nick Foles can be a solid 20 point start this week. Foles has been given the keys to the Eagle’s offense as Andy Reid named Foles the team’s starting QB for the remainder of the season. Foles is coming off the best game of his young career vs. the Dallas Cowboys where he threw for 251 yards and a TD in a 38-33 losing effort. Foles has consistently gotten better over the last four games that he has played and looks more comfortable in the offense with each passing week. This week Foles gets the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense that has played better of late but still give up 391 yards a game to opposing QBs.

Shonn Greene
Shonn Greene hits the edge

RB= The Ninja’s Sleeper RB in Week 14 is New York Jet Shonn Greene. Greene is coming off his second 100 yard rushing performance of the year as he ran for 104 yards last week in route to a 7-6 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Bilal Powell has been stealing carries away from Greene over the past two weeks but Greene ended this past Sunday with 24 carries compared to Powell’s 12. The New York Jets offense has been comical all year as they  have not found an identity or a quarterback 13 weeks into the season, but should stick with the run this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars who are currently ranked 31st in the league at stopping the run (144 yards/game).  The Jets announced that they are starting Mark Sanchez at QB this week and glorified backup Tim Tebow is out again due to cracked ribs. Look for the Jets to feature the running game this week and for Greene to receive the bulk of carries.

Kevin Walter
Kevin Walter looks in a pass

WR= The Ninja’s Sleeper WR in Week 14 is Houston Texan Kevin Walter. Walter is coming off a solid game last week where he put up 7 fantasy points against the Tennessee Titans. Again if you are in your league’s playoffs you probably are not looking for a WR but Walter can be a solid WR3 or WR/RB for you in Week 14. Andre Johnson has been playing like the all-pro receiver that he is over the past 3 weeks and this should open up more one on one opportunities for Walter on the opposite side. Walter ended his day last week with 4 receptions for 33 yards but saw 7 targets which gives me a good feeling about his Week 14 production against the New England Patriots who give up over 300 yards a game through the air. Walter looks like a 10 point player this week with the opportunity to get to 16 if he catches a TD.
