NBA Week 22 Games Watch

Round two of the fantasy playoffs begins. If the current score of your matchup is somewhat close going into round 2, using the right sleeper picks each day can propel you into the championship. We don’t even need to talk about your fantasy basketball badassery, if, let’s say you win this thing without Kyrie Irving or Tony Parker; or if you had a horrible draft to start the season but still win it with consistent waiver magic even through week 22.

This week, each team plays at least 3 times, with 14 teams playing 4 times. The waiver studs in weekly formats are mostly on teams with 4 games and 3 or 4 good math ups, this week that is the Pacers, Clippers, Lakers, Heat, and Jazz. Teams with 3 games and favorable slates are the Spurs, Thunder, Warriors, and Nuggets.

NBA Week 22 Fantasy Player Watch

George Hill
George Hill is hot but battling injury.

George Hill PG Indiana Pacers (%100 owned)

George Hill is coming off of a great week overall, however he is now listed day-to-day after suffering a strained groin on Saturday. Small forward/guard hybrid Gerald Green (%2 owned) will see a spike minutes for a game or two, especially as teammate Paul George (%100 owned) was recently quoted saying his handles are tremendously weakened  by a sprained ligament in his pinky finger. This possibility is worth further research going into Monday night if your league is very deep.

Chase Budinger SF Minnesota Timberwolves (%0.3 owned)

Did not want to put Budinger in this article until next week when his schedule looks better, however many casual fantasy owners do not realize that he has returned from an early season knee injury, to a T-Wolves team mildly desperate at the forward spot. This week, the likes of OKC and Memphis will stall his return party, but for week 23 he could be the #1 sleeper.

Mo Williams PG Utah Jazz (%80 owned)

Williams is listed in the same spot he was last week in this article after his ownership dropped %5. Last week, I mentioned he was not yet in good enough game shape to fully rejoin the rotation. Well, Saturday proved he is finally fully ready: 41 minutes, 23 points, 8 assists, and 3 steals.

Marc Gasol C Memphis Grizzles (%100 owned)

Out indefinately with an abdominal tear, I am thinking PF/C Ed Davis (%6 owned) will fill in the minutes, but stay tuned for tonights (Sunday) game to get a better read.

NBA Week 22 Fantasy Sleepers

Charlie Villanueva shoots a three
Charlie Villanueva has fallen in and out of the rotation in Detroit.

Charlie Villanueva PF Detroit Pistons (%1 owned)

Villanueva played the most minutes he has in a while on Saturday. Combine that with the recent announcement teammate PF Andre Drummond is out indefinitely, Villanueva is in a prime spot for a late season burst. A wily, fundamental player, he is a low risk medium reward candidate as a sleeper pick.

Harrison Barnes SF Golden State Warriors (%12 owned)

Coach Mark Jackson made a statement to the media that was pretty harsh on Barnes, basically saying he doesn’t have the cojones to step up late in games, and this will keep him on the bench during crunch time. This may have been a challenge to Barnes, perhaps meant as a spark – and it may have worked. On Saturday Coach Jackson let Barnes ride for 36 minutes, where he scored a respectable 16 points (5-8) and pulled down 8 boards. Hot fire going into week 22.

Moe Harkless SF Orlando Magic (%24 owned)

This past month has Harkless looking like a prime defender, increasing his steals to 3 per game over the past 10. Whether he actually is a top defender or not isn’t the issue. If your fantasy team needs steals and can take a small hit on FT%, Harkless is by far the best option.

Damien Wilkins SG Philadelphia 76ers (%1 owned)

Damien Wilkins is this week’s deep sleeper special. Plodding along since becoming a starter in the Sixers’ lineup, he has averaged 28 minutes, with 12 PPG on %54 shooting. A couple boards and dimes per night sweeten the deal.

Reggie Evans PF Brooklyn Nets  (%30 owned)

At only %30 owned, Reggie Evans, AKA The King of the Glass is entirely worth mentioning. Doing work in the paint, Evans is averaging 15 boards a game in March. What player doesn’t score a decent amount of fantasy points when they pull down 15 boards?

Courtney Lee SG Boston Celtics (%4 owned)

Many, okay….maybe a few, of you remember Courtney Lee’s time on the Magic. He produced well during his time in the Sunshine State. As a long time Magic fan, I can attest that Lee looks like he has his bravado back. While everyone is yelling about Jeff Green for the C’s, Lee played 41 minutes against the Heat, and during week 21 he averaged 12 points, 4 assists, and just over 1 trey per game. Lee has also consistently gotten steals throughout the season, ranking at 22nd in the league in the category. He is good for at least one per game the rest of the way.
